95.5 WBRU
Working at WBRU continuously brought on exciting tasks and projects. I had required office hours where I would file electronically the winners of contests, distribute winning tickets, and update the stations website via Wordpress. I was able to advance my communication skills, by talking with listeners both over the phone and in person.
One of the most exciting parts about this internship was having the opportunity to represent WBRU at live local shows. At events hosted by WBRU, the promotions team would set up a promotions table at these events, which gave us the opportunity to interact with listeners at the show and promote the ratio station. I was able to get hands on experience in event management working at the WBRU Free Concert Series in downtown Providence. For four Friday's in the summer, the radio station brought in artists to perform for free at WaterPlace Park. As an intern, I played a large role in the setting up and running of the event. It was my job to ensure all the sponsors banners were placed in the correct areas around the park, and it was my responsibility to set up the bands green room with all of their requests. During the show, my responsibilities ranged from working our main promotions table, to ensuring that everything in the VIP room was running as it should be. I was able to work behind the scenes, and get an understanding of what exactly it takes to put on a successful show. |
