City of Providence Mayoral Fellow
During the summer of 2018, I was a Mayoral Fellow for the City of Providence in the Communications Department. During my time here, my main projects revolved around social media content creation and management.
I was in charge of building the Providence Parks Department Facebook page from the ground up. I created all the content that was posted, decided what the page would include, and chose the overall language of the page. In two months, I was able to grow the page to a total of 688 likes. My second project was to revamp the already existing City of Providence Facebook page. The page was very stagnant in page likes and post interactions, and had no original content. The page was made up of posts republished from the Mayor's page, so my goal was to make the page into a space that reflected the entire city as a whole. By redirecting the pages content and making it more active and creating original posts, the page saw incredible growth. In the month of July, page likes increased by 24%, page reach increased by 269%, page follows increased by 19%, and post engagements increased by 112%. In addition to my main projects, I was able to gain hands on experience in day-to-day public relations tasks. I was able to write several press releases and media announcements, research and gather information for memos that went directly to the Mayor and attend press events with the Mayor for documentation. Additionally, I was able to be a apart in the City's newsletter restructuring, which allowed me the opportunity to interview City leaders and influencers to create profiles that would be featured in weekly newsletters. |
